The 2002-built stadium has held many domestic and international cricket matches. The Beausejour Hills-named ground in Rodney Bay’s outskirts staged its maiden international Test match in 2003 against Sri Lanka. The Caribbean’s first day-night game was played there.
Later, the stadium was renamed the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground on July 21, 2016, in honor of the West Indies captain who won the 2012 and 2016 ICC World Twenty20 tournaments, becoming the second West Indian captain after Clive Lloyd to do so. Johnson Charles, who won both championships, was honoured by having a stand after him.
